cove clean up

The local farmers and reserve committee with permission from Council have removed the bulk of the smelly Algal Bloom from Waipu Cove today, well done all involved, getting things done Northland styles, Mike C.

blooming cove

This week Waipu Cove was hit with a massive red Algal Bloom which made it almost impossible to surf or swim but is being cleaned up swiftly by local community volunteers, around 400 tonnes was removed in just one day with the clean up expected to take a number of days, it is very smelly but will be all sweet for the third annual Cove Fish Fry on the 13th of March, Mike C.

The Cove Fish Fry is a gathering of positive and like-minded surfers and shapers sharing a day at the beach. The original format of the Fish Fry was based around the Fish surfboard but as the event has evolved and spread throughout the world it has become open to all forms of surfcraft, Fish, Logs, Hulls, Alaias, Handplanes, Mats, the list goes on. The Cove Fish Fry is a non-competitive and non-commercial event and will be held at Waipu Cove, Northland, NZ, save the date, March 2024 (date TBC) for the 9th Annual Cove Fish Fry, cheers Mike C.
