Sandy Bay is the go to surf beach for the Whangarei area, it is located 30 mins NE of Whangarei which is about 30 mins North of Waipu, works well on a NE swell and SW is offshore there, if you are travelling from overseas or from other parts of New Zealand to attend The Cove Fish Fry you may want to travel just that bit more and check it out, above are some recent images from Sandy Bay, Mike C.

The Cove Fish Fry is a gathering of positive and like-minded surfers and shapers sharing a day at the beach. The original format of the Fish Fry was based around the Fish surfboard but as the event has evolved and spread throughout the world it has become open to all forms of surfcraft, Fish, Logs, Hulls, Alaias, Handplanes, Mats, the list goes on. The Cove Fish Fry is a non-competitive and non-commercial event and will be held at Waipu Cove, Northland, NZ, save the date, March 2024 (date TBC) for the 9th Annual Cove Fish Fry, cheers Mike C.
